On Monday, November 25, 2019, Skull and Bones welcomed the International College of Musical Theatre (ICMT), formerly the American Musical Theatre Academy (AMTA), to the stage at Wellington C. Mepham High School for a musical theatre masterclass. Current students, alumni, and three of our elementary school-aged performers participated in this exciting workshop led by three industry professionals:
Christie Miller is a co-founder of the ICMT. She is also an award-winning actor who has appeared in productions such as Annie, Run for Your Wife, Noises Off, Shirley Valentine, Educating Rita, A Christmas Carol, Philadelphia Story and The Mousetrap.
Christie has over thirty years of experience in performance and has produced and directed shows that have played and toured in both the UK and North America. She was the Assistant Director on the West End Broadway Revival version of Godspell: In Concert as well as the UK Tour. Christie is currently the Head of The ICMT in New York. |
Jeff Pew is a New York-based actor originally from San Jose, CA. He most recently appeared in the Radio City Christmas Spectacular as the Wall Street Bull and opened a new Broadway musical entitled The Bandstand in April 2017. He has also been in Cinderella on Broadway and the national tour of Billy Elliot.
As well as being a singer and actor, Jeff is also an accomplished pianist and plays company class regularly for American Ballet Theatre and Mark Morris Dance Group. Jeff is currently appearing in Frozen on Broadway as Swing and Assistant Dance Captain. Playbill.com |
Bronwyn Tarboton is a performer, pianist, and vocal coach based in NYC. She recently made her Broadway debut in Frozen as Swing. Before this, she worked as the Dance Captain and Standby for the New York City Revival of Smokey Joe's Cafe directed and choreographed by Emmy winner Josh Bergasse.
She trained classically as a pianist, playing a concerto solo with the Utah Symphony by age 11, and earned a BFA in Music-Dance-Theater from Brigham Young University. Performing credits include touring as Maggie in A Chorus Line both throughout the US and internationally as well as playing the role at The MUNY, Riverside Theater, and North Carolina Theater. She has done multiple seasons at Paper Mill Playhouse, Stages St. Louis, and Tuacahn Amphitheater. The International College of Musical Theatre
The International College of Musical Theatre (The ICMT) was co-founded by Kenneth Avery-Clark and Christie Miller and originally started as the American Musical Theatre Academy (AMTA) in London. Since then it has grown internationally with programs in London, New York, Rome and Belfast. The name change in 2019 to ICMT reflects its international growth.
ICMT offers world-class musical theatre training taught by West End and Broadway professionals. It brings in the very best talent from both sides of the Atlantic, who know what it takes to succeed, and ICMT's mission is to provide the best training available anywhere in the world.
ICMT's musical theatre courses are specially designed for those who wish to pursue a career in the world of musical theatre. Students will learn everything they need to know about how the musical theatre industry works today. ICMT wants its students to know that their passion counts, and ICMT pushes students to their maximum potential in a safe and positive environment where their talent can grow to excellence. The Masterclass
Ms. Tarboton taught the participants a choral portion of the opening song "The Prince Is Giving a Ball" from Cinderella. After learning the song, the participants then learned choreography and discussed song interpretation with Mr. Pew. After just over an hour, the participants put it all together with Mr. Pew's direction and Ms. Tarboton's accompaniment. Afterwards, Ms. Miller, Mr. Pew, and Ms. Tarboton held a Q&A session with the participants. You can view a recording of the students' work below as well as photographs from the workshop.
